Hair Today, Date Tomorrow?

Once in awhile, I'll get hair A.D.D. I'll want to change the color, try a new style or simply cut it off. But typically I stick with my basic long, blonde hair. Nothing too special about it. Recently I have been tempted to cut it short, but I am consistently reminded of the words my old hairdresser said to me once; "Don't cut your hair short 'till after you are married. Guys want girls with long hair...short hair is domisticated."

While I obviously do not think changing my hair is going to improve or destroy my dating status, it dawns on me that men sometimes are more perceptive to our hairstyles than we may think. When my friend came a few weeks ago, he randomly blurted out that he hates when girls wear the "poof" in their hair. Another friend of mine concurred that her boyfriend hates this current trend as well. After taking an office consensus, I've found a random assortment of answers from some not caring to others being very specific. Many of them just want "girls to look like girls."

But wasn't it just this year that Katie Holmes chopped her hair and become a style icon? And once Rihanna dropped her locks into a mohawk 'do she was suddenly edgy and "hot"? Does this make them more attractive only to us because it's stylish and trendsetting or are men on board with these looks as well?

Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions here...but even when I flip through the Vickie's catalogue it is a common trend that all the models have long, flowing hair down to their waists. Is this what the hair of a sex goddess is supposed to be like?

The image of beauty is always changing but perhaps the assumption that girls' hair should be long, guys' should be short is always the rule of thumb? Even though I walk by hundreds of girls every day with cute bob haircuts and current styles that make my hair look like a random pile of dry hay...do guys still prefer us to keep our locks longer?

Any male perspective on this is very appreciated...
